Gloriana

In the country music landscape, there are plenty of male groups and plenty of female groups, but few groups made up of potentially explosive mix of males and females. Enter Gloriana, who have combined their music talents and flair for powerful country pop to release this impressive debut, mixing their four part harmonies with a dash of mandolin to push the boundaries of country music, but do so in such an energetic manner, that the music shines through and makes for an all round enjoyable album.

Based out of Music City, Nashville TN, Gloriana was formed in 2007 when brothers Tom Gossin and Mike Gossin, who had been working as a duo in the North Carolina area, moved to Nashville and met Rachel Reinert. The vocal chemistry was obvious from the start, and when Cheyenne Kimball joined, the group was set, adding Kimball's vocal and mandolin skills to the mix.

The main theme of this album seems to be relationships - both good and bad. From the opening track Wild At Heart leading the way as a carefree and fun approach to a new relationship, Gloriana uses their vocals to tell the story of their songs. Other standout tracks like How Far Do You Wanna Go?, the groups first single in Australia, detail the next phase of the relationship. In fact, upon closer review of the album, which features songs written by Stephanie Bentley, it flows like a chronicle of a relationship and all the experiences and emotions that two people can share.

Ultimately, the breakup song Even If I Wanted To and the final goodbye in the relationship during Time To Let Me Go are the standout tracks on this debut. The stripped down style of the latter track give the quartet their best chance to showcase their vocals and the arrangement keeps it firmly cemented in the country genre

Gloriana is a group who know what type of music they make best and have done so quite well here under the watchful eye of producer Matt Serletic. Live they would be a dynamic experience and fans who have seen them live report nothing but good things in the short time the group has been together. Hopefully, the focus can remain on the country elements to their music as the group continues to grow and mature together, which will only mean good things for their fans.
